Hugh Francis took us on a great tour of Maple Brook and on our way back to Glendale we met up with Brian and his girlfriend for a few moments.

I never had any real interest in Stonehenge apart from that Thomas Hardy referred to it, I believe in Tess. Well I quickly realized it was only a half hour away from Salisbury Cathedral, so I took the tour bus over and was pleasantly surprised at the sight of it from afar, and how overwhelming it is to consider. I'm glad that it is fenced off as I was able to photograph it more easily and still was close enough to appreciate it fully. It's amazing!

Salisbury is a medieval English cathedral, famed for having been built in only 38 years (1220 - 1258) in a single architectural style, early English Gothic. The tower and spire (Britain’s tallest) were added about 50 years later. Although Follett's 'Pillars of the Earth' is based on this beautiful edifice, I thought the book was pretty awful, aside from the details on the construction.
